The Yawning Fairy

Fairies are a big interest of mine. I love learning how the malevolent fae morphed into the current idea of fairies throughout history. In this piece, I wanted to depict the modern day version of a fairy, while practicing unique poses. In this piece, I used watercolor, however, I specifically only used the wet-on-dry technique with many layers. This helped me slowly build up contrast and use more detail. I used a smaller amount of water to collect more watercolor pigments in the brushstrokes to get bright colors. However, this makes it harder to tell which medium was used to create the piece, as it doesn’t follow the usual flowing watercolor style.
